Harvey and Moriarty to assume new positions in March 2008
COCOA BEACH, Fla. – December 2007 – Ron Jon Surf Shop (www.RonJons.com) recently announced the appointment of Debbie Harvey to president and chief operating officer of the lifestyle-apparel and board-sports-equipment retailer. Harvey will officially assume the role of president and chief operating officer in March 2008. In addition, Ed Moriarty, president of Ron Jon Surf Shop since 1997, will become chief executive officer.
“Debbie has played an integral role in the vast growth of the Ron Jon brand since she joined our team in 2000,” Moriarty said. “This is a much deserved promotion, and I, members of the Ron Jon Surf Shop Board of Directors and the rest of the Ron Jon family look forward to the future growth of the company under her leadership.”
As president of Ron Jon Surf Shop, Harvey will oversee operations of Ron Jon Surf Shop stores, facilities and licensees, as well as serve as the driving force behind additional store expansion and brand extension. She will also continue as a member of the board of directors.

Harvey began her tenure with the company as director of merchandise buying before being promoted to vice president in June 2007, overseeing merchandise buying, worldwide Ron Jon Surf Shop licensing activities and the corporate marketing department. In September 2007, Harvey was also appointed to the Ron Jon Surf Shop Board of Directors. In addition, Harvey currently serves as chairman of the Florida Retail Federation which represents the interests of Florida retailers and is a member of Leadership Florida.
Upon Harvey’s transition to president and chief operating officer in March 2008, Moriarty, president of Ron Jon Surf Shop for the past 10 years, will become chief executive officer. In his new role, Moriarty will focus on further expansion of the Ron Jon brand by identifying new business opportunities. He will also continue as a member of the board.
During his tenure as president, Moriarty grew Ron Jon Surf Shop from two store locations to nine store locations, including the soon-to-be opened store location in Panama City Beach, Florida. Moriarty was also instrumental in expanding the Ron Jon brand through several licensing agreements. This includes Ron Jon Surf Shop locations in the Orlando, Tampa and Miami (Fla.) International airports, Newark International Airport, Cozumel, Mexico, three in Canada, as well as the surf-themed Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Ron Jon Surf Shop expects to fill Harvey’s previous position as director of merchandise buying for the company in early 2008.
Ron Jon Surf Shop was founded in 1961 when surfing enthusiast Ron DiMenna began selling surfboards at his tiny oceanside shop in Long Beach Island, N.J. The lifestyle-apparel and board-sports-equipment retailer has since opened stores in Cocoa Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Ft.
